In <a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/?page_id=522%22\" target=\"_self\">Parts IV<\/a> and V, you&#8217;ll see links to other reliable, reasonably priced sources.]<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> The <strong>Super-Minis<\/strong> \u2013 the smallest e-cigs (84\u2013103 mm), the same size and shape as a king-size or 100s analog cigarette. Because of that, these often are initially appealing to current smokers. However, since they necessarily have a small atomizer and battery (90-120 mAh), they are not nearly as effective as any of the following categories. All but the RN4081 have exposed bridge atomizers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"super-mini and king size analog\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/super-mini-and-king-size-analog.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"56\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Models include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>84 mm (the smallest e-cig): the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lallaboutique.com\/product_info.php?products_id=41&amp;osCsid=81f9850b65fb88611a957770a8648874\" target=\"_blank\">DSE084<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (aka <em>8084<\/em>)\u00a0shown at the top of the group photo below (courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.e-cigarette-forum.com\/forum\/electronic-cigarette-reviews\/35010-review-dse-108-e-cig.html#post536418\" target=\"_blank\">Nikko Daniels<\/a> of ECF).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>89 mm (about the size of a regular filtered analog): Models include the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.happyvaper.com\/Happy_306A_Super_Mini_p\/306a-kit.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Joye306a<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.litecigusa.net\/category_s\/24.htm\" target=\"_blank\">M403<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, and the silver &amp; black <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blucigs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">blu<\/a><\/strong><\/em> shown in that photo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>98 mm (about the size of a 100s analog): Models (not shown in the photo) include the<em> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/shop.rockymountainvapor.com\/category.sc?categoryId=37\" target=\"_blank\">Joye306<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (aka Janty Mini Fogger) and the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.litecigusa.net\/category_s\/25.htm\" target=\"_blank\">M402<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. [NOTE: Although the 306 and 306a batteries are low capacity, the 306 <em>atomizer<\/em> is becoming increasingly popular for use with 510-based models (such as the eGO), with which it is compatible.]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At 103 mm, the<em> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vapor4less.com\/103-Electronic-Cigarette-Starter-Kit-Dse103Kit.htm\" target=\"_blank\">DSE103<\/a><\/strong><\/em> and the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liquidnicotine.com\/products\/Super-Mini-RN4081-Electronic-Cigarette-Starter-Kit-.html\" target=\"_blank\">RN4081<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (often sold as Smoking Everywhere <em>Gold<\/em> or Njoy <em>Npro<\/em>) are the longest super-minis, and close in length to the shortest model in the next category.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"minis and super-minis\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/minis-and-super-minis1-300x145.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"145\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> The <strong>Minis<\/strong> \u2013 mid-length (108\u2013118 mm), a bit longer than a 100s analog. They strike an optimum balance between effectiveness and ease of handling \u2026 and therefore are extremely popular. The two shortest models have exposed wick attys; the others are unexposed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/mini.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-299\" title=\"mini\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/mini.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"302\" height=\"32\" srcset=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/mini.jpg 302w, http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/mini-300x31.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Models include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The white and tan\u00a0model in the above\u00a0group photo\u00a0\u2013 the <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberty-flights.co.uk\/product.asp?id=10\" target=\"_blank\">DSE108<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (guess what length it is).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The 108 mm <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.litecigusa.net\/category_s\/26.htm\" target=\"_blank\">M401<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (the next one down, black with gold design, although such color and design are selectable).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Next, the black unit with a button (also shown at the left of group 2 in the\u00a0photo at the top of the page)\u00a0\u2013 the 112 mm <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cignot.com\/product_p\/kit-510-nbx.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Joye 510<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (the most popular among forum members). It offers outstanding vapor production and its manual switch battery is the most reliable of any cigarette-shaped model, putting you in full control of the vaping experience. Its only downside is its 180 mAh battery, requiring frequent recharging. It is because of this that the Fat Batts (see the 6th category) were created, the first several of which have been based on the 510 atomizer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The silver &amp; red\u00a0unit in the photo at the top of the page\u00a0\u2013 the 117mm cartomizer-based <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.altsmoke.com\/?ref=196\" target=\"_blank\">KR808D-1<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(often sold under the brand names: <em>Vapor King<\/em>, <em>Cig Easy<\/em>, <em>Nebula<\/em>) is the simplest and most convenient model, with a powerful, relatively high capacity battery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The silver unit at the bottom of the above group photo\u00a0\u2013 the 118 mm <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/shop.rockymountainvapor.com\/category.sc?categoryId=11\" target=\"_blank\">DSE901<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (the longest of the Minis, but much shorter than the next category) was one of the very first e-cigs. This tried and true model, until recently, typically was the one most often recommended for the new vaper and still is a very good choice, especially for those wanting an automatic battery. The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mypvshop.com\/store\/electronic-cigarettes\/rn4075\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>RN4075<\/em><\/a><\/strong> model\u00a0is virtually identical, but has a low-bridge wick.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. <\/strong>The <strong>Penstyles<\/strong>: the longest type (155 mm), the same size as a\u2026pen (and also one of the very earliest models). It has a 280 mAh battery, providing 55% more puffs per battery charge than the Minis (other than the KR808D-1). It is my personal favorite.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/penstyle.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-297\" title=\"penstyle\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/penstyle.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"302\" height=\"32\" srcset=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/penstyle.jpg 302w, http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/penstyle-300x31.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Models include: <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/shop.rockymountainvapor.com\/category.sc?categoryId=10\" target=\"_blank\">DSE801<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mypvshop.com\/store\/electronic-cigarettes\/rn4072\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>RN4072<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.happyvaper.com\/Joye_302_Penstyle_p\/302-kit.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>Joye302<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bestecig.com\/product_view.asp?id=2\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>BE112<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (all of which are compatible and identical in appearance) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.litecigusa.net\/category_s\/38.htmhttp:\/\/www.litecigusa.net\/category_s\/38.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>M201<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/usa.jantyworld.com\/index.php?page=shop.product_details&amp;flypage=yagendoo_VaMazing_1.tpl&amp;product_id=3683&amp;category_id=24&amp;option=com_virtuemart&amp;Itemid=177\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Janty Kissbox<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. The 801 has a high-bridge wick atty; the others (I believe) are low-bridge.<\/p>\n<p>There also are models not falling neatly into the above by-length niches:<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Those that mimic the two other tobacco smoking devices: <strong>Cigars<\/strong> (shown in the group photo at top of page) \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.litecigusa.net\/category_s\/36.htm\" target=\"_blank\">rechargeable<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalciggz.com\/preview\/index.php?main_page=index&amp;cPath=72\" target=\"_blank\">disposable<\/a> \u2013 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.litecigusa.net\/category_s\/35.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Pipes<\/strong><\/a>. If you are a cigar or pipe smoker, these are the <em>obvious<\/em> choices. However, they are not nearly as effective as the next three categories and are dwindling in popularity. [NOTE: Since the rechargeable cigars and pipes are battery housings for generic batteries, they <em>could <\/em>be included in the next category, although they are not considered as such.]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/cigars-and-pipes.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-303\" title=\"cigars and pipes\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/cigars-and-pipes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">5.<\/span><\/strong> And then there are the <strong>Mods<\/strong>: Unique battery housings for high-mAh and\/or high-voltage generic batteries for use with previously mentioned atomizers and cartomizers. Most of the mods have been made in the U.S. and Europe, although more recently China has gotten in on the act. They are called \u201cMods,\u201d since many started out as homebrew modifications, addressing the biggest weakness of cigarette-shaped PVs \u2013 the battery. Examples are the Joye\/Janty Stick, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totallywicked-eliquid.com\/?ps1=00100\" target=\"_blank\">Screwdriver<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.puresmoker.com\/category_s\/65.htm&amp;Click=9312\" target=\"_blank\">Prodigy<\/a>, the first versions of which are shown in the photo at the top of the page (from left to right). As you can see from this photo of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.e-cigarette-forum.com\/forum\/general-e-smoking-discussion\/78628-side-side-comparison-e-cigs-mods.html\" target=\"_blank\">youtubecommercial<\/a>&#8216;s vast collection, most mods are large and\u00a0tubular, but some are relatively small, some are\u00a0box-shaped, and others are just&#8230;strange-looking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/youtubcommercials-mod-collection.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-317\" title=\"youtubcommercial's mod collection\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/youtubcommercials-mod-collection-300x155.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The definitive comprehensive guide to mods (in addition to our own <a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/?page_id=1041\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Mods Buyers Guide<\/strong><\/a> , of course :)) is ViZi&#8217;s outstanding <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecigarette-mods.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">eCigarette Mods Database<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 a must explore for anyone even vaguely interested in mods. The &#8220;Battery Mods&#8221; (i.e., those discussed here) are organized by type: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecigarette-mods.com\/battery_tube_mods.html\" target=\"_blank\">Tube<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecigarette-mods.com\/battery_box_mods.html\" target=\"_blank\">Box<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecigarette-mods.com\/custom_battery_mods.html\" target=\"_blank\">Custom<\/a> (i.e., the &#8220;Fat Batts&#8221; described immediately below). See also his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecigarette-mods.com\/ecigmod_batteries.html\" target=\"_blank\">Battery Chart<\/a> for a listing by battery type and voltage. Shown here are the types of batteries most often used in mods. 6V mods stack two of the 3.0V batteries; 5V mods do the same thing and add in a regulator or resistor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecigarette-mods.com\/images\/other\/ecigarette_batteries.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"batteries used in mods\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ecigarette-mods.com\/images\/other\/ecigarette_batteries.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"313\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">[The first two digits of battery nomenclature represent the <em>diameter <\/em>in millimeters, the next two the <em>length<\/em>, and that the last zero indicates that it is <em>round<\/em>. So the 16340 is short and fat (16 X 34 mm), the 10440 is long and skinny (10 X 44 mm), and the 18650 is big all over (18 X 65 mm).]<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">6.<\/span><\/strong> The \u201c<strong>Fat Batts<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 my name for a new category, the first example of which was the<em><strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenhouseone.com\/Joye-eGo-Starter-Kit-p\/ego.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Joye eGO<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (also sold as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totallywicked-eliquid.com\/?ps1=00100\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Tornado<\/em><\/a>) \u2013 a unique battery designed for the Joye 510 atomizer, with an accompanying cone sleeve for the atty and a silver ring with manual button in the center. The result is a PV 14 mm in diameter and 118 mm long, i.e., about 50% fatter than the 510 mini, but only slightly longer. The battery is 650 mAh \u2013 significantly greater than any\u00a0of the skinny\u00a0e-cig batts \u2013 and providing most of the advantages of a mod in a much smaller package. Its 3.4V is only slightly more then the 510 battery&#8217;s 3.2V.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"fat batt - eGO\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/fat-batt-eGO.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"34\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Other fat batts have followed. For the 510 atty: the 750 mAh <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vaporjunction.com\/store\/index.php?main_page=index&amp;cPath=42&amp;zenid=82c0fc9525936480cbd885ac550a564f\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Riva<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and 1300 mAh <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalciggz.com\/preview\/index.php?main_page=product_info&amp;cPath=68&amp;products_id=232\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>Hello 16<\/em><\/strong><\/a> &#8230; and <strong><em>mega<\/em><\/strong> versions of the eGO\/Tornado (the 900 mAh <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heaven-gifts.com\/?product-256.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>mega eGO<\/em><\/a> and the larger\u00a01000 mAh <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totallywicked-eliquid.com\/?ps1=00100\" target=\"_blank\"><em>mega Tornado<\/em><\/a>). For the KR808D-1 cartomizer and 901 atty: the 750 mAh 3.5V\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cigeasy.com\/category_s\/29.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Elegant Easy<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/other-fat-batts1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-365\" title=\"other fat batts\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/other-fat-batts1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/other-fat-batts1.jpg 309w, http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/other-fat-batts1-193x300.jpg 193w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">7.<\/span> <a name=\"section_1\">Juice-fed<\/strong> Mods<\/a> \u2013 Most vapers think of these as a subcategory of the mods, but what they do is so special I think they deserve their own category. Replacing both ineffective cartridges and the hassle of dripping or dipping, they are the wave of the future of vaping (although a similar claim could be made for cartomizers, which have never appealed to me personally).<\/p>\n<p>The first commercially available juice-fed mod was the <em><strong>Carlos Juice Box<\/strong><\/em>: a major breakthrough and winner of the 2009 <a href=\"http:\/\/vapyawards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vapy Award<\/a> for Best Hobby Mod. It contains a 2600 mAh 18650 battery and a 10-ml bottle of e-liquid. A push on the button at the side of the box injects the juice into the atomizer. It is, however, quite large, problematic,\u00a0and not terribly attractive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Carlos Juice Box\" src=\"http:\/\/i562.photobucket.com\/albums\/ss67\/DonDaBoomVape\/Carlos49sJuiceBox.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"212\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/AFS.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During the same period of time, Imeo developed the expensive <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vaporkings.com\/The_GG_AFS_v2_0_Automatic_feeding_system_p\/gg-afs-v2-universal.htm\" target=\"_blank\">AFS<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (<em>automatic<\/em> feeding system) for his <em>tubular<\/em> GG mods, now available for most other mods as well. It screws in between the battery housing and atomizer; and makes for a very long (and wide diameter) PV.
