{"id":4531,"date":"2013-06-28T10:21:19","date_gmt":"2013-06-28T14:21:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/?p=4531"},"modified":"2014-01-29T12:31:30","modified_gmt":"2014-01-29T16:31:30","slug":"bottom-coil-short-issues-evod-protank-viva-etc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/bottom-coil-short-issues-evod-protank-viva-etc\/","title":{"rendered":"Bottom Coil Short Issues (EVOD, ProTank, Viva, etc.)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Defective Head<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I filled a brand new Viva BCC Mini today and found that my ZMAX went into short circuit protection when I tried to fire it. \u00a0No big deal, I knew it was a simple fix. \u00a0I&#8217;ve had a few EVOD and ProTank heads act this way, both right out of the box and after a few tank fills, so I thought I&#8217;d pass along a photo of a common problem with these heads.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Problem<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The issue is that the positive coil wire is making contact with the negative body of the base resulting in a short. \u00a0In this case, the ZMAX detected the issue as resistance being too low. \u00a0An initial test on a multimeter showed the correct 2.2ohm resistance and it wasn&#8217;t until a little pressure was applied to the center post that the short happened. \u00a0Removing the coil head from the base revealed the problem.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/defective_head_01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4532\" alt=\"Defective EVOD Head\" src=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/defective_head_01-300x186.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/defective_head_01-300x186.jpg 300w, http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/defective_head_01.jpg 539w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see in the photo above, the cause of the short is that the positive \u00a0wire from the coil is sticking out beyond the silicon gasket. \u00a0It&#8217;s easy to feel the protruding wire when turning the head between your fingers. \u00a0When the coil assembly is screwed into the base, this wire may make contact with the outside of the tube, causing a short.<\/p>\n<p>During the manufacturing process, the positive and negative coil leads are bent over the sides of the gasket and tube, respectively, to hold them in place when everything is assembled. \u00a0They should then be trimmed and pressed in flush with the tube, but that obviously has not happened. \u00a0Questionable quality control strikes again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Fix<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Luckily, it&#8217;s an easy fix. \u00a0Simply inserting your thumbnail between the bottom post and the gasket and then turning the head in a clockwise motion should be enough to push the wire back underneath the gasket. \u00a0Nail clippers wirk well for removing any excess wire. \u00a0It may take a couple of tries because of the springiness in the wire. \u00a0You should feel no wire protruding if you spin the head between your fingers now. \u00a0You&#8217;ve just recovered a head that seemed defective!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Defective Head I filled a brand new Viva BCC Mini today and found that my ZMAX went into short circuit protection when I tried to fire it. \u00a0No big deal, I knew it was a simple fix. \u00a0I&#8217;ve had a few EVOD and ProTank heads act this way, both right out of the box [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4531"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4531"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4531\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4812,"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4531\/revisions\/4812"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4531"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4531"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/vapingguides.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4531"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
