Nicotine recommended for long term use?

More interesting information about the relatively low risks of prolonged nicotine usage appeared in an article in The Wall Street Journal yesterday. Electronic cigarettes are an even more effective replacement therapy than the gum mentioned in the article, and as we’ve suspected, prolonged nicotine consumption isn’t that bad at all. If the FDA admits that nicotine gum is okay for long term usage, that would be one more argument against the electronic cigarette gone.

Provari vs. Infinity

The Provari by Provape is a full featured variable voltage mod that satisfies no matter what atomizer or cartomizer is being used. It’s one of the best personal vaporizers we’ve tested, but the Infinity from NotCigs is not far behind. Check out the full review here.

SmartCarts

I recently picked up some prefilled SmartCarts from Clouds of Vapor and I am impressed. These cartridges hold up to .9ml of liquid and vape perfectly until the last drop, even on a low resistance atomizer. The filler in these is a little difficult to remove, but that hassle is offset by the fact that the prefilled liquid is actually pretty good. See the full review here.

Auto or Manual e-cig?

Ever since my first Dodge Omni (and what a fun little cheap skate that was!), I have always prefered manuals to automatics.  My taste in electronic cigarettes is no different.  I enjoy the vape from a manual much better, especially compared to the finicky hard drawing automatic batteries of a year or so ago.  I’ve been vaping a Bloog Maxx Fusion lately, though.  I have to say that an auto that performs like this one is a pleasure every now and then, particularly when doing something that requires both hands.

eGo-T Batteries

A recent new addition to the list of eGo options on the market has been the eGo Tank, or eGo-T,  such as the Inferno-T from Volcano.  I’ll leave it up to Cozzcon to give the full review of this new eGo’s performance, but what has me excited are the batteries.  I have often lamented that so few electronic cigarettes have an on/off switch.  The eGo-T batteries are essentially a 1000mAh version of the standard eGo battery, but 5 button clicks in rapid succession turn them on or off.  Finally, a pocket friendly eGo.  They’re now available at a number of retailers, including Liberty-Flights.

Cartomizer Cleaning with a Syringe

I recently bought an Infinity variable voltage device and also have a Provari ordered (can’t wait for that one!) and the ability to pick my voltage means experimenting with different atties and cartos. A box full of Boge soft cap cartomizers that I didn’t find satisfaction in are now back in use. They had all been used before and sitting around for awhile, so they needed a good cleaning. A quick search of ECF led me to a video by 0smitty that shows a quick and easy way to clean and dry cartomizers using an oral syringe. I have posted more on 0smitty’s procedure on a page entitled Cartomizer Cleaning.

The Vaping Movement

As Arlo Guthrie put it, “You know, if one person, just one person does it they may think he’s really sick,” but if enough people do it, “friends they may thinks it’s a movement.” – from Alice’s Restaurant.  The critical mass theory applies to vaping, although on a smaller scale.  I have been vaping at work for over a year and a half and have helped a few people switch to e-cigs.  Lately, a co-worker in the same building started vaping and became the catalyst for a chain reaction of a half-dozen now former smokers.  Nice.  And it has really got me thinking that as this alternative to smoking grows at an exponential pace, it will be harder and harder for the antis to stop it.  Let’s hope so.

USA Today article

There was a fairly good article in the USA Today yesterday by Steve Wood of the Courier-Post. He took the time to present a number of success stories of the kind that we are all aware of and presented a pretty well balanced article. The only real negative in the article came from Karen Blumenfeld who obviously crawled out from under her rock yesterday with brilliant assertions like, “Anyone that claims that these e-cigarettes are safe … there’s no basis for that.” Apparently the Boston University School of Public Health doesn’t count when you’re making up facts.

A nifty little DIY mod

Highping's Juicebox mod design

Making your own PV can still be an entertaining and rewarding experience.  New commercial mods like the Provari from Provape are stretching the envelope of mod technology, but simple 5V and 3.7V mods are still well within the capabilities of anyone with reasonable soldering skills and a drill.

A fantastic example that I’ve been meaning to build for quite some time is the “juicebox,” a simple box mod with a bottom-fed e-liquid pump. Highping on the ECF has provided an excellent tutorial.   Including batteries and a charger, Madvapes has nearly all of the parts for under $27.  Your local hobby shop should have the brass tube for under a dollar.
