RJR Introduces Vuse Electronic Cigarette

Big tobacco has made another commitment in the electronic cigarette market.  In a press conference today, the cigarette maker R.J. Reynolds (RJR) announced its Vuse electronic cigarette.  “A perfect puff. First time, every time.” will be the marketing slogan for the new line of electronic cigarettes that the company says performs more consistently than existing models.  It’s hard to know whether they are comparing it to the good electronic cigarettes we have come to love or the poorer ones that are available at the cigarette counter.

At the very least, they are touting the fact that it is rechargeable, which is a good thing.  The company is also stating that the  microprocessor will continuously monitor the power, heat and cartridge performance.  It sounds a little like a variable power “cig-a-like”, but we’ll reserve judgement on that one…

Great Deal on eVic

This is the best deal on a eVic I have seen.  Mike & Carol’s Internet Store has the eVic kit for only $72.97 after using the coupon code “EVIC” .   Shipping is a little high at $6.99, but not unreasonable, and that’s still less than $80 shipped for an eVic kit with battery and charger.  I have not dealt with this site before, but they have been around for awhile.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary Allows Electronic Cigarette Use

Okay, I’ll admit that I have never heard of the Cambridgeshire Constabulary.  It’s the police headquarters in an area of Britain, we’ll leave it at that.  What’s important is that the constabulary has taken a factual approach to electronic cigarettes rather than the all too typical banning of them because they look like cigarettes.  Vapor is not smoke and it is healthier, but those are facts that often get ignored in the frenzy to eliminate smoking.

Rather than forcing electronic cigarette users to vape with the smokers (where they might as well still be smoking), they have decided to allow employees to vape while on the job in all non-customer facing areas.

A spokesman for the force is quoted in the Cambridge News as stating, “Following discussion which considered both pros and cons of both visibility and health it was agreed that use of electronic cigarettes would be permitted on police premises although not in front facing areas such as enquiry offices.”

Sure, I’d rather hear this news pertaining to the NYPD, but I suppose we have to start somewhere.  If the Cambridgeshire Constabulary can make their decision on “just the facts, ma’am,” perhaps other employers will see the merits of allowing electronic cigarette use.

FDA Changing Stance?

For too long now, the stance of the FDA and public health groups has largely been negative towards electronic cigarettes.  Anyone who has spent a minimum of time looking into ecigs has found the same old flawed 2009 study regurgitated over and over again.  Some recent statements by Mitch Zeller, the head of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products seem to indicated that the agency is reconsidering it’s bias toward pharmaceutical smoking cessation methods.

“Changes in the marketplace have forced the public health community to wrestle with the idea that some tobacco products may pose less of a health risk than others.”   This according to a recent article in the Washington Post.  It looks like a tacit admission that commercial pressure is a primary consideration in the FDA’s decisions.  Could it be that the FDA and public health officials are finally considering the idea that reducing smoking related deaths may be a good idea even if pharmaceuticals aren’t involved?

The article goes on to mention electronic cigarettes specifically and  the fact that in the first quarter of 2013, ecigs have resulted in cigarette volume reductions of “about 600 million cigarettes, or about 1 percent,” according to tobacco industry executives.  That works out to about 333,000 pack-a-day smokers.  The tobacco industry was never that worried about the patch or Chantix, were they?

Electronic cigarette users have long ago accepted the idea that the technology represents a safer alternative to tobacco smoking.  Could the FDA finally be accepting the idea?  According to Zeller, the head of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, public health agencies have been left with “no choice but to grapple with the issues and the questions of harm reduction.”  I’m glad to hear they’re reconsidering their stance, but it is still aggravating to know that it takes this much market pressure to force what should be a simple, logical discussion.

The closing line of the article is also irritating in what it indicates about public health policy.  “Public health officials say the safety of e-cigarettes and their effectiveness in helping people quit regular smokes haven’t been fully studied.”  So, for 4 years we have been hearing negative “facts” about electronic cigarettes from the anti-smoking crusaders, yet now they admit that they should be studied?  What exactly were the previous conclusions based on?  One is nearly forced to assume that pharmaceutical industry contributions were a large influence.

It’s way too early for optimism, but this is certainly better than hearing another rehash of that 2009 study.

Ecig Bling for Mother’s Day!

Vapor Couture electronic cigaretteEcigs with a little bling are a fantastic way to show Mom you want her to quit smoking in style. The Vapor Couture line at V2 Cigs is a great option. V2 electronic cigarettes are among the easiest and best performing out there and The Vapor Couture line is classy looking to boot. An essentials kit is currently 15% off and a free 2-day shipping upgrade is in effect until May 8th, so now is a good time to shop for Mom!

Health Canada Seeing the Light?

A recent article in The Globe and Mail discusses how the Canadian Lung Association appears to be reversing their opinion on electronic cigarettes.   This is good news for Canadians who currently cannot buy ecigs containing nicotine.  According to the article, “The Lung Association used to warn that e-cigarette users were inhaling toxic chemicals. But new evidence convinced the organization to change its position and it says they may be a valuable smoking cessation aid.”  It’s great to see an organization like the Canadian Lung Association thinking for themselves rather than regurgitating the FDA rhetoric.

The Globe and Mail does a great job of reporting on the reduced harm aspect of electronic cigarettes that is so encouraging.  We’ve often said that it’s a shame that the anti smoking groups seem to be unable to see the value in ecigs of preventing needless deaths due to smoking.  David Sweanor, a law professor who focuses on tobacco rlated issues sums it up nicely at the end of the article; “The bottom line is that for anyone who truly cares about reducing … death and disease, they have to be pragmatic rather than dogmatic.”  Well said.

Kanger Protank at Viper-Vape

The Kanger Protank is a larger version of the EVOD that I really enjoy.  The 2.5ml capacity of the Protank overcomes one of my only complaints with the EVOD, its rather skimpy 1.2ml capacity.  All metal and glass construction are pretty nifty, too.  Viper Vapes now has the Protank for only $18.50 and you can take another 15% off using the coupon 15offvape.  That’s an excellent deal!

ZMAX Mini

I continue to really like the ZMAX and now the Mini is starting to make an appearance.  It has a shorter tube that accommodates one 18350 battery.  Of course, we can expect a shorter battery life, but the reduced size might make it worth it.  Madvapes has the ZMAX Mini in chrome right now for $59.99.  Litecig is carrying it in stainless steel, which I really like, for a whopping $119.95.  They do include an extension cap for use with 18650 batteries, but for that price I’d expect a whole kit.  Expect a review after the mail gets here!

ZMAX Mini

The new ZMAX mini is beginning to hit the stores.  I noticed today that Lite Cig USA is carrying the Smok Tech ZMAX Mini packaged with an extension that allows for use with an 18650 battery.  The Mini is a slightly shorter version of the ZMAX thanks to its single 18350 battery design and also incorporates an eGo connector as well as the RMS function.

$19.99 Bloog Battery 4-Pack!

I have no idea how long this will last, but Bloog currently has 4 automatic battery packs on sale for $19.95!  This is a fantastic deal for anyone using minis or even those of us who just like to have one around for the convenience of hands-free vaping sometimes.

To top it off, our own VGDFVE coupon code apparently still works at checkout for even more savings.  Just enter the code at checkout.
