Lavatube long term results

When the Lavatube was released a few months ago one of the main questions on many vapers minds was whether it would be reliable.  Being a relatively inexpensive device, there were some reservations about how it would hold up.   After nearly four months of daily use, I can definitely say it has met the reliability challenge.  Several drops resulted in a loose connector, but that was easily fixed with a dab of superglue.  Besides that, zero defects have become apparent.

Black Fire Flavoring – Close To The Real Thing

Black Fire flavoring from FlavourArt provides about as close to a burning paper smell as vaporized liquid possibly can.  I picked a bottle of this up recently from Ecig Express, mixed it up and was amazed at the results.  It doesn’t necessarily taste like a cigarette so much as it does the burning paper of one.  With that in mind, this will likely be a fantastic flavor to use in conjunction with other tobaccos that are missing a little of the smokey flavor.  There don’t seem to be any other flavors present in Black Fire either, unlike some other smoke flavorings that taste overwhelmingly of hickory or mesquite.

Note that Black Fire is a DIY flavoring, not a premixed juice and cannot be vaped on its own.  The description mentions mixing at 1-5%, but a mix of 10% flavoring in a 80/20 PG/VG mix seems just about right to me.

Goodejuice House Brewed Filtering Improvement

I’ve mentioned before that I am a big fan or Goodejuice House Brewed flavors.  I have also noted that the liquids are thick and tend to clog atomizers and cartomizers.  I attributed it to the 50/50 PG/VG ratio that is higher in VG than I typically vape.  It turns out that part of the problem may have to do with the density of the flavoring that results from the extraction process.  The folks at Goodejuice were concerned with the issue and have modified the process to include added filtering.  I recently received some e-liquids that have benefited from the new filtering process and it does seem to have made a difference.  The juices are still thick, but cartomizers are now useful for several more fills than they were before.  The House Brewed e-liquids are good enough that I don’t mind discarding a carto after a week, but a few extra days will make me even happier.

Vapor From Both Ends?

Just when I thought I had a pretty good handle on all the forms a personal vaporizer could take, along come the folks at Vapor Beast with something that I hadn’t imagined.  The Switchback is a PV that can be vaped from both ends.  The device can accommodate two separate atomizers or cartomizers at the same time with a switch to determine which one is currently in use.  It’s an interesting idea for those who like to alternate between a couple of flavors.  Besides that, it’s a good looking device.

Wisconsin bill excludes electronic cigarettes from indoor smoking bans

A new bill has been introduced by Senator Glenn Grothman in Wisconsin that would specifically exclude electronic cigarettes from indoor smoking bans.  Our kudos go out to Senator Grothman for being a voice of reason among legislators.  There is no evidence that secondhand vapor is even remotely harmful and it certainly does not present any of the health risks for which cigarette smoke has been condemned.  Most politicians are satisfied with the perception that anything that looks like smoke must be harmful.  Senator Grothman is obviously willing to give a little more thought to the subject and he has our respect for that.

If you are a resident of Wisconsin, please take a moment to read the call to action on CASAA and make your opinion known.  The rest of us can only hope that the news that logic can be applied to lawmaking spreads to other states.

Why cartomizers?

The question of “why should I use cartomizers” seems to come up often.  To an electronic cigarette user who has started out using atomizers, the idea of adding a whole lot of e-liquid to a cartomizer and still having to top it off every now and then may seem a little complicated.  After a few refills, however, the process of filling a cartomizer is pretty simple.  And the latest cartomizers make it easy to simply drip e-liquid into the filling.  The process is no more difficult than filling a cartridge, and cartridges will often not feed liquid to the atomizer fast enough to provide a good vape.  Many vapers end up discarding the cartridge in favor of dripping directly on the atomizer, which makes the vaping much less convenient.  Cartomizers take care of the problem by lasting for several hours before needing a refill.  The need for a refill is indicated when the flavor starts to drop off.  Cartomizers are a great choice, but atomizers still have their place.  See the article Atomizer vs. Cartomizer for more information.

Vapornine Nebula Price Reduction

When I reviewed the Vapornine Nebula back in May, I thought it was a great kit, but at an inflated price.  Vapornine has now reduced the price on the Nebula Starter kit to only $29.99, making it one of the least expensive ways to get started with an electronic cigarette.   An even less expensive electronic cigarette trial can be found in their $7.95 Nebula Express starter kit.

Lavatube First Look

The Lavatube electronic cigarette
Volcano has graciously provided an early release model of their soon to be available Lavatube variable voltage electronic cigarette. It’s a great performer and feels solid. Indications are that it will be competitively priced and it should be a nice addition to the available variable voltage choices.
